WHY ARIAL IS AWFUL

Arial is a terrible typeface, so I decided to make a huge poster about it. I wrote a brief essay discussing Arial's dishonorable history, undeserved ubiquity, and poor design. I drafted the essay in a Word document using Arial Bold and made it as illegible as possible to overemphasize the negative qualities of the typeface. I then took a screen capture and quadrupled its size to create a large, pixelated image. I laid the image out in an oversized poster and highlighted certain words and sentences that make reference to the negative qualities of Arial as well as the positive qualities of other typefaces. Each color coded highlight has its own section at the bottom of the page that visually describes what I discuss in the essay. The poster is printed on large format canvas in order to remove Arial from the digital context that has made it prevalent as well as display the premise in a dramatic and analytical way.
