GREAT BOOK

Great Book is a project based on the NPR program "This I Believe," which was created in the 1950's. Fifteen graphic design students each wrote "This I Believe" essays and exchanged them. Each student then compiled the fifteen essays and designed a book based on the content within the essays. Every piece of writing was slightly different from the next, ranging in topics from kindness to music appreciation. Because most of the essays dealt with being a good person in some way or another, I decided to take a light-hearted approach with the aesthetic and layout of the book. I broke the essays into five sections based on content and further broke each essay down into a two-page spread. I drew playful illustrations in ink that focus on the premise of the writings and typeset the essays on the page opposite the illustrations. The title and supplementary content also reflect the light-hearted theme within the book.
